FAQs

Q?

Is my wall strong enough to support a stairlift?

A.

This is one of the most common questions we’re asked. All stair lifts are actually fitted to the steps, not the wall, which means that there is no damage to your walls or decoration. The stairlift brackets, or legs, are bolted into the steps, so chair lifts can even be installed on staircases with plasterboard and non-supporting walls.

Q?

Does someone need to come out and measure my stairs?

A.

Yes, we do need to measure your stairs and assess your particular requirements to make sure that your stairlift fits your staircase and meets your needs. Our assessments are no-obligation and free of charge. They usually take no longer than an hour, depending on the staircase. We adhere to the British Healthcare Trades Associations Code of Practice and abide by their code of ethics, which means there is no high pressure sales, just expert friendly advice.

Q?

How much does a stairlift cost to run?

A.

Stairlifts are very economical and environmentally friendly. A stairlift only cost pennies a year to run.

Q?

What happens if there is a power cut?

A.

Your stairlift will still work for a limited time if you have a power cut. Your stairlift is battery operated and these re-charge when your stairlift is left on a charge point top or bottom of the track.

Your stairlift will alert you by bleeping when it is not left on a charge point. If your stairlift batteries go flat they may need to be replaced.

Q?

What do I do when I no longer require my stairlift?

A.

For various reasons you may no longer require your stairlift. Many companies do not buy back stairlifts however Swindon Stairlifts offer a complete package from installation to removal and we may buy back your stairlift.

This will be dependent on:

  • Make and model of stairlift
  • Age of your stairlift
  • If your stairlift was bought new or reconditioned
  • Our current stock levels.

If for any reason we do not buy back your stairlift we can remove your stairlift (this may incur a small charge) or put you in contact with someone who may be interested.

Q?

What do I do when I need a new carpet?

A.

Ideally the best time to replace your carpet is before installation, however, if this is not possible Swindon Stairlifts can remove then reinstall your stairlift. A cost will be incurred for this service.

Q?

How long will I have to wait for my stairlift?

A.

Once you have placed an order with Swindon Stairlifts your stairlift can often be installed within days and, in some cases, as quickly as the very NEXT day. Swindon Stairlifts prides itself on the fast installation.
